Local Soccer Roundup – 2.8
July 2, 2008No Freedom in this week’s Roundup. Word around the campfire is that one of the Long Island Lady Rough Riders vehicles was involved in a no-injuries accident on the way down here.
What’s worse, is that today’s Freedom/Majestics sorta-derby at Wakefield High School in Arlington, VA kicks off at 4pm. Seriously? Who thought this was a good idea?
Majestics 0 – 0 Fredericksburg Lady Gunners
21 Majestics shots that forced eight Lady Gunners saves went to waste on Saturday afternoon. I’m not sure if number of offside calls is ever an indicator of offensive prowess, but the Lady Gunners had zero offside calls and zero corners to boot.
Royals 0 – 2 Reading Rage
Royals 2 – 2 New Jersey Rangers
Lightning shortened the Royals/Rage match to 84 minutes on Saturday, but they thankfully got all 90 minutes on on Sunday, because they would end up needing them. A goal-free 1st half at New Jersey gave way to Rangers goals on 55′ and 66′. New Jersey scored again on 77′, but it was on their own goal to give the Royals a way back. The Royals drew level on 89′ through Kareem Sheta, who had only five minutes earlier entered the match.
Monarchs 1 – 2 Crystal Palace Baltimore
A Palace goal on 34′ was answered quickly by Real Maryland three minutes later on a Nilson Perez tally. The Monarchs lost out on their share of the points on 56′, falling to their 5th straight loss.
